The cleaning method for cargo pants should be adjusted based on their fabric type. Routine care focuses on preserving color, maintaining shape, and extending the garment's lifespan; therefore, it is important to pay attention to the specific requirements for different materials.

When cleaning cargo pants, consider the fabric: Cotton cargo pants are durable-turn them inside out and wash them in 30°C (86°F) water using a neutral detergent. You can wash them by hand or use the gentle cycle on a washing machine; avoid scrubbing with a stiff brush, as this can cause pilling. For denim cargo pants, soak them in a concentrated salt solution for 1–2 hours during the first wash to lock in the color. Afterward, wash them separately by hand-avoid machine agitation-and use cold water to minimize fading; keep them separate from other dark-colored garments. Cargo pants with a waterproof coating should only be washed gently by hand. Do not use a washing machine's spin-dry cycle, and avoid fabric softeners, as these can damage the waterproof coating.

For daily maintenance, always air-dry the pants in the shade; direct sunlight can accelerate fading. Use a wide-shouldered hanger when drying to prevent the fabric from wrinkling. If the pants get dusty, wipe them down with a damp cloth rather than washing them, which helps reduce the frequency of full washes. Before storing pants for a long period, ensure they are thoroughly cleaned and dried. Keep them in a dry, well-ventilated area-either hung up or folded and placed in a dust-proof bag-and add a mothball to prevent insect damage. Finally, do not store them alongside light-colored clothing to avoid color transfer.
